Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. You’ve painstakingly crafted your project budget, item by item, only to be told, “Great! Now just add 10% for contingency.”
Why 10%?
“Because that’s what we always do.”
“It feels about right.”
“Just in case.”
The days of this arbitrary “percentage-of-the-total” contingency, applied with the precision of a dart thrown blindfolded, are long gone. And frankly, continuing this practice is a risky gamble that can jeopardise your project’s success and your organisation’s financial health.
